On November 5, the blood drive came to Jim Thorpe High School. It was an opportunity for many of the students to donate blood and to help out the people in need for blood everyday. Students who weighed over 110 pounds that were age seventeen or older were able to donate.

Senior Brett Luicana said, “I donate because I know that there are people who really need it and all that it takes is a little time and positivity.”

According to www.bloodcenters.org, “There are about 4.5 million people in the United States and Canada that need blood transfusions each year and one persons donation alone can save up to three lives.”  There are about 43,000 pints used each day in America and Canada so you can see why donating is so critical.”  Each person who donated gave about a pint of their blood.

“It was my first time donating blood and it was a good experience so I will continue to donate in the future. I also know how important it is because so many people are in need,” said Talia Valentini.

The students who donated  sat down and filled out paperwork on their medical history. Then the blood drive workers took the students height and weight to make sure they met the guidelines, if they did they got a finger prick to make sure their blood was acceptable. Then the students sat down to donate. After it was all over,  students were welcomed to snacks and drinks and time to relax and were thanked for their generosity from donating.
