2015 Spring Musical

The Jim Thorpe Area High School Drama Department has officially decided on the musical for this coming Spring. The students’ suspense was finally relieved when it was announced that it would be The Sound of Music.

When Josiah Behrens was asked what he thought of the play being The Sound of Music, he said, “ I love the musical The Sound of Music. I think it is challenging one to put on, but I feel that we’re up for the challenge. It is a more serious musical than those we’ve done recently. Still, it is a show filled with love, a great storyline, and great music.”

The play welcomes all students in grades kindergarten through twelfth grades. It is a great opportunity to express their talents. The tryouts were held Saturday, February 7th. The competition was tough. Potential actors and actresses will had to sing, dance, and act out a skit to nail a part. There was a good turn out.

Josiah Behrens experienced how the tryouts work: “Upon your arrival, everyone is given a number and put into groups of five. Each group goes through the three areas of auditioning; acting, singing, and dancing. Through the audition, you read lines from the show, match pitches from the show and learn choreography from a dance in the show. This process takes about thirty minutes. Once you’re done, you sit and await the call from the director on the part you’ve received.”

In the past, the plays have always turned out well, so considering this year will be The Sound of Music, the show may be even better.

When Behrens was asked what he expects from the play he stated, “ I expect to have a big cast this year. I expect lots of laughs, lots of memories, and lots of hard work. I expect a great Jim Thorpe High School musical.”
