It is a well-known tradition for seniors attending high school to give a little going away present commonly known as a senior prank. These pranks can range from a mass of students taking a nap in the hallways to putting cars on top of buildings. With a quick search, one can see the clever ideas that keep popping up with every passing year. But why do seniors perform such pranks?

“To leave their mark on the school,” says Tyler Benson, a Senior at Jim Thorpe Area High School.

What do the teachers, the ones who have to deal with it yearly, think? For the most part it all depends on the prank. Pranks have been known to get out of hand, with some being charged as either criminal acts or vandalism. However on the other hand, there are “pranks” that are not as malicious.

Mr. Robert Podlinski, a teacher at Jim Thorpe Area High School stated “1: The prank can’t be mean, 2:  It can’t put anyone else’s safety in danger, 3: can’t create more work for someone else.”

In Jim Thorpe High School, the class of 2015 decided to have a party as their “prank.” It consisted of the whole class getting together in the courtyard, playing games, and eating food. The seniors had fun without disrupting the peace.
