Within the school district of Jim Thorpe, there are many teachers who deserve the spotlight this year. One of those teachers is Mr. Nathan Donahue.

Mr. Donahue has been a teacher here at JT for eleven years. He went to Penn State University for Meteorology. He then went to Bloomsburg University for his teaching degree in Earth and Space Science.

“Ever since I was little, I have always had in interest in earth science. I decided on teaching because I wanted to teach children about meteorology and show them how interesting it really is,”  stated Mr. Donahue.

Student who have Mr. Donahue know that he shares a room with Mr. Michael Pascoe, and also teaches at LB Morris, which is the elementary school district for the children who live in JTHS. This means he has to drive from the LB to the high school everyday in order to teach his classes.

“It is not as bad as one would think. Like doing anything there are days where I do not mind and other days where I’d just rather go home instead,” Donahue said. Mr. Donahue uses Mr. Pascoe’s room, which is in the science wing of the high school building. He told The Olympiad, “It’s not that bad sharing a room with Mr. Pascoe. We get along well, so we make it work.”

Outside of school Mr. Donahue loves watching sports, especially the Penn State Football games, and likes going out to golf on sunny days.

He told The Olympiad, “On the weekends I like to just relax and spend time with my wife and three kids. We often enjoy the night out or have a movie night at the house.”

Considering Mr. Donahue is going on his twelfth year teaching at Jim Thorpe, he has taught many students. Talking to some of Mr. Donahue’s current and past students, they all had the same view point: everyone seems to enjoy his Meteorology class.

One of his current students now, Brian DeMarco says, “Going to his class is like going to a comedy show, but you actually learn things. Also, watching Mr. Pascoe and Mr. Donahue bicker back and forth some days is humorous.”

Angellica Stauffer is one of his former students. She stated, “His class is fun, and I learned something new everyday.”

With everything Mr. Donahue knows about Earth and Space Science, it is easier for him to see what is about to happen. He left The Olympiad with this piece of advice, “If your hair stands up, lightning is about to strike…RUN!”
