2016 Prom

Many teenagers often times participate in Prom. Prom is a very big dance, and almost a celebration of the accomplishments that everyone has made to get to where they are towards the end of the school year. This year in May of 2016, prom is planned to be bigger and better than ever. Many students have been planning their senior prom since freshman year.

Seniors at Jim Thorpe Area High School, Ilse Hassler and Darin Murphy are excited for prom.

Hassler is a current member of prom committee at Jim Thorpe High School. She is a senior, and hopes that everything she has been planning will come together. This year, the theme for prom is “stary night.” The setting is expected to be dark with beautiful white lights, elegant flowers and much delicious food. Former Jim Thorpe high school student, Aubrey Warner, will play the music that will be played on the night of prom.

As a parent, and a member of prom committee, Tracy Hassler has high hopes of prom turning out to be spectacular, but also worries about the teenagers. An Internet search revealed, “On average, every year about 41% of teens will drink before getting in the car to drive home from prom.” This could lead to dangerous situations.  Mrs. Hassler says, “I hope everyone has a fun, safe prom.”

Prom of 2016 should be a night full of memories that will last forever. It is important to remember to have fun, but also to be safe.

Murphy says, “I plan to avoid peer pressures of any kind so that I can have a perfect night for my senior year.”
