Are you studying correctly? Is the effort you put in enough? During the school year, students sometimes tend to lose focus of their grades. Students also start to become distracted by after school activities, summer plans, and upcoming events. That usually leads to students not putting in enough hours of study time within those plans. It would seem studying would be a second nature for students, but student, at times, tend to not take it too seriously. This could be because some students simply not studying correctly. Sure, there is no perfect way, but some advice could never hurt.

Mrs. Burchell, guidance counselor at Jim Thorpe High School states, “ I recommend that students should study in an area with minimal distraction or a quiet environment such as the kitchen, or dining room table. You should also use flashcards to write notes and thoughts down. Try to start studying five days prior to test, or quiz you take, and at least fifteen minutes per night. And lastly, make an organized schedule for your week in a planner so you can include study time around your plans.”

Along with the informative tips stated by Ms.Burchell, students could also try different methods of studying, too.

Mr. Eichelberger, science teacher at Jim Thorpe High School adds, “You should recopy the notes that you were given in your own words. Compare and contrast the topics you learned, and try writing down the different subjects you learned and put down what you remember about each subject by memory.”
