After going to districts for the first time in many years last season, the 2016 volleyball team has a lot of pressure on them this year. Last season was a fresh start getting two new coaches, Victoria Nichols and Sierra Fogal. With a new outlook and attitude, the team had a winning record. This year, with three games per week, the JT volleyball team has a fast and intense season.

Jim Thorpe senior and captain, Jillian Peterson says, “It’s my last year of this sport, so I want to make it a good one. Making it to districts last year was a great feeling, and i want to accomplish it again.”

Jillian is a starting middle hitter. She is a leader on the court and is a great team player.

“My goal for this year is to play every point to the best of our ability. We can’t mentally lose a game before it even starts,” says Peterson.

Varsity coach Victoria Nichols has only been a coach at Jim Thorpe for two years, but she has brought a lot of new skills and success. She and the team have a great bond. She cares a lot about the girls and it is not hard to tell by the way she coaches.

“This season is a lot different from last. We have six new freshman on our team this year. They never seem to dissapoint me. We had so many girls with such great talent try out this year,” says Nichols. “If I had to pick a team motto for this year, it would be ‘want it more’.”

The volleyball team got new jerseys this year. Sewn on the bottom inside of their jerseys is the phrase “want it more.” In order for the team to make it to districts this year, they are going to need to play every game their hardest and want the win more.
