Flag football tournament, a senior project

Senior projects are a mandatory requirement for graduating at the Jim Thorpe High School. Students can choose to work on their own, or collaborate with other students. It is not uncommon to see more project activities popping up at this time of the year. One student, Trevor Keefer, is hosting his project right now.

“Our senior project is a flag football tournament for the students, faculty, and staff of Jim Thorpe Area High School. The tournament will be held on Friday, May 19th with rain date to be announced, if needed. The teams will consist of five starters and two alternates. The cost is thirty-five dollars, and all proceeds go the Susan G. Komen Foundation. The tournament will be run in a double elimination fashion with the championship game being only played once. (This means the undefeated team only needs to be beaten once.)”

Trevor’s idea is a good way to get the students active and moving, while also raising money for charity.

“We thought this would be a great way to promote competition in a fun, healthy environment all the while raising money for a great charity. We collectively decided that football would be a big hit with the students. The tournament is co-ed and thus it should be fun for everyone. We also felt that a football tournament was easy to run and easy to gather equipment for.’’

Senior projects are sometimes very stressful for the upperclassmen students. It is easiest to choose a fun way to raise money and make sure that way is a simplistic activity, garnering it’s already provided equipment and supplies.
