Unusual pets

If the thoughts of owning an unusual pet seem like it would be a colossal nightmare, think again. Here at Jim Thorpe High School, some of our students own unusual pets. Junior, Hailey Bowman and Senior, Marni Quevado both shared their experiences when it comes to taking care of their unusual pets.

“I own a Vietnamese mini pig, I named her ‘Pig Floyd’ in honor of the actual band ‘Pink Floyd’. She loves when I take her on walks outside,” Junior, Hailey Bowman said.

Bowman is a very loving, and caring person when it comes to her animals. She takes great care of all of her pets. In addition to Pig Floyd, she has a pet cat and two fish.

“It isn’t weird having a pig because she’s my best friend, just like if I were to have a dog. Pig Floyd loves to eat her pig food, and sleep all day long,” Bowman added.

Bowman loves the outdoors and she is very peace loving young lady. Bowman wants to pursue a career that involves dealing with pets on a daily basis in her future.

“I think having an unusual pet makes it more unique with actually having that pet and not taking advantage of having it. I have two hermit crabs and they aren’t the most unusual pets to have, but they are pretty rare. Hermit crabs are pretty laid back and boring, they like to curl up in their shells,” Marni Quevado stated.

Quevado is a senior at Jim Thorpe High School. She loves to watch her hermit crabs play in the cage together. Quevado is into a lot of different things involving nature. She loves to hike and go fishing in her free time.

Having an unusual pet is not much different than owning a more traditional pet. Owners; however, may need to take extra time to learn about the unusual needs that their unusual pet may need.
