Volleyball tournament

One of the biggest school activities known to Jim Thorpe would easily be the annual Volleyball Tournament. Ask any of the students what their favorite school activity is before winter break, and most of them would say the tournament. Every year, student council hosts a volleyball tournament. All students are allowed to participate.

This year was the thirty fifth annual volleyball tournament. Every year student council raises money and collects canned goods to give to the local food bank.

“This year we made seven hundred fifty dollars and we also were able to donate three hundred cans to the food bank,” said Kayley Kovac, student council president.

Every person on a team was required to bring in one canned good. Being able to donate cans of food to people that are not able to buy some themselves is a great thing to do, especially around the holidays. It can help someone out tremendously even if it is not realized.

This year, there were many of teams that participated in the tournament. All students including freshman through seniors love playing and having fun on the last day before winter break. The teams make up fun names and create t-shirts to go along so they all match. This year, the winners of the tournament were the Silly-ol-Boys. This team was made up of all seniors and one sophomore.

“It felt really awesome to win the tournament. After all the years of high school and not being able to win, it is an honor to be able to win the tournament our last year in the school,” said Lucas Boyle, senior.

All in all, being able to participate in the volleyball tournament has always been a good time, especially for the seniors. Playing one last time with friends is fun. All the students that walk these halls will remember the memories they make here. These memories always include the infamous volleyball tournament.
