Jim Thorpe High School’s prom committee by Orianna Harris

Mrs. Rosenberger, the prom committee advisor for Jim Thorpe Area High School, decided to construct the first meeting for seniors on Thursday, February 17, 2018. Her objective was to get a move on planning prom while still incorporating the students’ opinions and ideas of what their prom should be.

This year’s prom committee is being held in room 325. Already, the room gets packed to the tee whenever there is a meeting. Whereas, during the previous years prom committee only consisted of twenty kids in the room.

Mrs. Rosenberger herself even stated, “every year there’s around twenty kids who decide to join. This year I think we’re like double that.”

Even though there are a lot of students on the committee this year, Mrs. Rosenberger really tries her best to engage with the entire group. The first survey they voted on was for the theme of prom. In the survey, there were about six to seven theme choices all together.  Some of these choices included Victorian Era, Alice in Wonderland, Gods & Goddesses and even Enchanted Forest.

Day’ Janee Beckham, a former member of prom committee said, “I personally put in a vote for enchanted forest. Not going to lie though, it was kind of hard at first to pick which theme had favored me the most.”

When Mrs. Rosenberger calculated all the votes, she sent a message around to everyone in the group. The message informed them which themes had made it up to the top two, which were Gods & Goddesses and Enchanted Forest. But, as expected, not everyone in the group were pleased with these results.

Devin Lignore, a person who voted for Gods & Goddesses stated, “I hope Gods & Goddesses wins the end vote. There’s just so much more we can do with it as far as decorating goes. Plus, this theme has never been done before in our school.”

Both themes went head to head as Mrs. Rosenberger reviewed the answers to the final vote for the theme of this year’s prom. Unsurprisingly, the vote was thirty to five. Enchanted Forest stealing the win.

After finding out this news, most members of the prom committee were excited that Enchanted Forrest was the winning theme.
