On May 13, 2018 Ms. Hydro’s journalism and Mrs. Gabrielle’s tv and video production class went to Wilkes University for the 2018 Tom Bigler Journalism Conference. It was from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and they provided lunch. There were a large number of schools from around the area that attended the conference.

Ms. Hydro, a journalism teacher from Jim Thorpe said, “The part of the trip that I like the most is that the students can pick which topics they are interested in attending. It makes it very personalized for each student and his/her own interests.”

There were a lot of topics to choose from and there was a keynote speaker, Kenneth P. Vogel a journalist and author. Some topics were editing, reporter, photograph, art gallery, etc.

“What I liked best on the trip was the variety of events you could choose from and how they presented each different one within the university. Also, how you could actually hear from real Journalists and have them elaborate more about what they actually do in that part of their job and how they got to where they are in their field of work,” said Brenna Gutwein, a senior.

There were people there that were real journalists, reporters, photographers, etc. The people there explained what journalists, reporters, and photographers do. Also, students and teachers got to see different places in the university like the gym, the ballroom, and art gallery.

Nyiah Smith, a senior who enjoyed the trip said, “I liked just touring the campus and meeting new people. I thought the trip was fun.”

Students got mixed together with other students from different schools. When students go to different areas, students are with other students you don’t know. Also, students got to meet and ask questions to real journalists, reporters, or photographers. The people there were nice and friendly.

“The trip was fun and interesting. The presentations were nice and I learned a lot,” said Zetela Bernard, a sophomore.

Students and teachers got to learn about journalists, reporters, photographers, and art. Also, students got to explore and find out about journalists, reporters, and photographers. The trip was a great way to find out if you want to be a journalist, reporter, or photographer.
