Jim Thorpe girls basketball make their way to states

by Kelli Ohl, reporter

Jim Thorpe girl’s basketball team is officially in district mode. Wednesday, February 27th, the girls played Tamaqua at Martz Hall. The win gave them a spot in states automatically. If they would have lost, then they would have had to make their win up Saturday to take back their place into states.

“We mostly have to prepare mentally to get this game, the odds are against us but if we are mentally there we will be fine,” said Skyler Searfoss, a freshman starter in the lineup.

The final score was 42-27, the first quarter was very nail biting, at the end of first it was 11-12 with Tamaqua up by one point. The girls, throughout the game, seemed determined, and by the beginning of third, they were only at 21-19 with the Jim Thorpe girls ahead. They finally took control and ended with a fifteen point lead for their final.

“We are preparing for Tamaqua by watching film, switching up defenses, and running our offense sets through and correctly,” freshman player, Leah Snisky said.

The girls needed to prepare themselves for the game which they prepared well because the outcome of the game showed what they were capable of doing. The girls even predicted it would be a rough game until the fourth quarter, but it was not as hard as expected.

“I predict that it will be a good game until the fourth quarter, that we will pull away and end up winning 62-50,” said Searfoss.

The girls did indeed pull through at the end, and pull the score up high enough to have a good outcome to the game and end it well against the rivals. The joy ride and adrenaline is not over yet, the team still has their ride to states and a journey to winning it all.
