Spirit Week: reviewed and recapped

The Spirit Week of 2014 was a smashing success. With an all time low amount of complaints, one can say that Nathan Fields, head of student council, handled this very well.  Students deserve a round of applause for being mature this year, as well.

The week began with Pajama Day. Aside from a few yoga pants/sweatpants issues, the day went by great. Students just wanted an opportunity to wear sleeping attire and be comfortable in their home clothes.

Day two was mix-match day. While walking down a hallway, students eyes would melt at all of the clashing colors and interesting combinations. While some students did not participate in this day, those who did went above and beyond in many ways. Some groups would mix their clothing, but match each other, taking a whole new spin on the day. The creativity sparked by this intriguing day showed that Jim Thorpe High School is in fact, a school unlike any other.

Wednesday was Costume Day, perfectly planned on the night to go trick-or-treating. Whether students saw Steve Urkel, ninjas, Mary Poppins, or floating shopping lists, the costumes were original and varied. Groups of Pink Ladies roamed the hallways, and “frat-boys” made an appearance as well. Inmates, superheroes, and even a turkey could be seen in classrooms. All in all, it was an outstanding day, and the costume references were amazing.

Thursday was Neon Day. While most likely the hardest day to plan for, students picked it up and ran with it. Eye melting colors brightened up the school, and a hallway looked like a rainbow the further down you ventured.

Even in the most humdrum class, one could get lost in the color wheel that fired lasers into students brains.

The final day was Olympian Fanatic Day. Always held on the Friday of Spirit Week, this particular day is the time to just go all in with school spirit. Whether it was jerseys, hair dye, face paint, megaphones, or even feather boas, this day was actively participated in by students. To celebrate this day and the end of Spirit Week, a large pep rally was held in honor of the football team’s last game for the season. Special events, such as a cheer-off between the players and the cheerleaders, were hosted and each student was entertained and “pepped up.” The Spirit Week of 2015 was the most well run in school history. The amount of students in the office compared to previous years was miniscule. Mr. Kovac, the advisor for student council even stated, “This year was the best by far.”
