Applying to college

Applying to college

by Gabbie Binder, reporter

No one ever said that applying to college would be easy, but no one said it would be as hard as it actually is, either. Once the student has made one of the toughest decisions of choosing the right school, he/she is faced with endless amount of emails and paperwork. But do not fret; it is  not as bad as it seems.

First comes picking the students’ dream school. Which is not an easy task. The students need to find not only a school that best fits them but one that is practical for their major and their financial situation.  Also, they want to look at the food offered, dorm styles, the area around campus, and the overall atmosphere.

Senior, Erin Kelly states, “One of the hardest parts for me was picking which school I liked best, there are so many different ones that all of something good to offer.”

Once the student has made the decision they have to officially commit to the school. Which is often a scary thing since they are choosing where they are going to spend the next four years of their lives. The student was probably given the step by step instructions on how to commit to the school in their acceptance letter. It is extremely important to keep and not lose any papers sent by the schools the student is interested in, as they could contain important information and codes.

After committing, a school will send multiple emails or letters explaining the next steps. These steps include housing and meal plan agreements, possible roommate information, and placement testing information.

When all of this is done, sit back and enjoy the senior year of high school. This is said to be one of the best years of a student’s life, so make sure to take time to enjoy it.
