As springtime, the season of early showers, sunny afternoons, and seasonal allergies nears, the Spring TV line up is looking promising.

As said by, Rick Stella, reviewer from www.DigitalTrends.com, “Forget Netflix, these are the best TV shows streaming on Hulu.”

Big contenders in modern media markets are streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, recently, have been producing their own original series.

Netflix has found success with shows like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. The second season of their underrated Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiers on Netflix April 15th. This quirky comedy, starring Ellie Kemper tells the story of a cult affiliated young woman escaping her odd past as a sister wife, to find a new beginning in New York City. This program currently holds a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes, as certified fresh.

According to New York Times writer, James Poniewozik, “Hulu’s The Path, whose first two episodes appear on that streaming service on Wednesday, shares themes with the latter show; it takes place on the upstate New York compound of a fictional cult, the Meyerise Movement. Like the former show, it uses Mr. Paul’s gift for playing morally conflicted souls under pressure.”

Hulu has its own niche in the market with cult favorite Misfits and it recently picked up from Fox The Mindy Project. Hulu is making its debut with the intriguing drama The Path starring Aaron Paul, on March 30th with following episodes thereafter. The ten episode series tells the story of Eddie Lane, a man questioning his faith after his conversion to the controversial Meyerism. This Hulu original is receiving mostly positive reviews as of now, and has brought Hulu some considerable praise.

As for primetime television, it still holds a place in viewers hearts and their DVRs.

AMC has found astounding success with series The Walking Dead and spin off Fear the Walking Dead. The latter premiered at 9 o’clock April 10th. This season, begins with the Los Angeles inhabitants finding their salvation on a massive yacht, the Abigail. Fear the Walking Dead will have to hold off dedicated fans of the Walking Dead universe, after the mystifying season six finale of TWD which aired April 3rd, until its season seven premiere next fall.

Last, but certainly not least, HBO’s critically acclaimed Game of Thrones season six premiere is set for April 24th. After the devastating and surprising “death” of Jon Snow last season, fans are filled with enthusiasm and excitement for the conclusion of this epic cliffhanger.

Teens and Young Adults is the coveted demographic for most programs. There are many television connoisseurs here in Jim Thorpe High School.

According to Kylie Rehnert, freshman, in regards to her favorite tv show, “Well, I would have to say Orange is the New Black (Netflix), because I like the backround stories of each individual character, the different plot lines are interesting too.” Also, Rehnert voiced her opinion on the tv premier she is most looking forward to, “Orange is the New Black, which premieres June 17th.”   As for what she thinks the future of tv and streaming looks like, Rehnert said “I’ve already noticed how inappropriate Disney is becoming, it’s only going to get worse. I also think we are going to be watching tv on holograms eventually, like projecting out into thin air.”  Lastly, when asked of her all time favorite couple in TV and movies, Rehnert stated, “Jamie and Landon from A Walk To Remember.”

The saying “To each is his own” can ring true in any discussion. Many of the students at Jim Thorpe High School have a very different tastes and preferences in television.

When interviewed about her television preferences and viewing, Ginny George, freshman, said “I like Scream (MTV), because it is a great horror and thriller. I like the suspense and adrenaline rush you get when watching it.”  In regards to upcoming premiers, George stated “I am looking forward to Scream and Pretty Little Liars.”  Her opinion on the coming trends to the entertainment industry is just this, “What is on TV, is just going to get worse. It’s  going to get really bad for kids, all of the violence and language shown is becoming worse.” On the brighter side, when asked of her favorite character in TV, George answered, “My favorite character is K.C. played by Zendaya, from K.C. Undercover (Disney).”

Even as times change, teenagers interest in violence, drugs, sex, horror, and all of the above is not going to change. Some of the biggest hits in the last year have been American Horror Story, Teen Wolf, and Scream Queens.
