Ben’s big day by Dylan Millard, reporter

With the streets of Philadelphia drenched in rain, the Jim Thorpe Area High School History Club attended the Franklin Institute for the Terracotta display. Despite the weather, the club went on to enjoy the long night, followed by a cry of joy with news of school being closed the following day.

“I found the experience to be invigorating and heartfelt. This allowed me to see history with my own eyes, as well as get to see the backstory that could have been lost forever,” William T. Locke, attendee of the Jim Thorpe History Club, stated.

Many of the students who attended were very eager to get to the city of Philadelphia, despite the rain and rather poor weather conditions. The club got to express their joy once they arrived at the institute, taking many photos and sharing them among their classmates. Although there was a nature of joy with the visitors, the group was downhearted when Mr. Holub, one of the teachers who runs the history club, had fallen ill and could not attend.

“We were able to see many new sights, as well as embark on the journey of a lifetime,” Locke stated.

The students who attended took two vans, both being driven by a teacher. The first van that ravaged through Philadelphia was led by Mr. Ellison. Once the club arrived at the Franklin institute, they took to the exhibit and studied the fascinating sculptures that were present.

“Most the statues were in very good shape, which showed the extreme caution that went into these works of art,” Locke proclaimed.

Whether it was on the road or in a rest stop, the group got to experience some memorable moments through telling jokes and laughing amongst one another. These moments were shared to families and friends all over the school. At the end of the day, the group was delighted to visit the institute, and hopes to continue to have many more field trips ahead of it.
