Blood drive at Jim Thorpe Area High School by: Brianna Barberio

A blood drive was held at Jim Thorpe Area High School on Monday March 5, 2018. Students had to be sixteen years and older to participate in the blood drive. Life Source ran the blood drive. Some high schoolers helped out during the blood drive and Student Council is very much involved. The blood the students donated goes to helping sick people in need.

“It helps sick people and people who need blood,” said Lea Vasquez, sophomore.

With the help of these students, people who need blood or are sick can get blood they need and get better. No one knows how many lives can be saved until it is done.

Day Janee Beckham, a senior whose helped out at the blood drive for three years and coordinates the blood drive stated,

“We usually get around fifth students to come in and donate blood and there are about ten high schoolers who help.”

Donating blood is important for many health reasons.

According to Angelimarie Nelson, senior, donating blood is important

“Because it saves lives.”

Thanks to generous people who want to save other’s lives, now some people in need of blood can get it. There are many reasons why people choose to donate blood.

Jacob Frisvold, a sophomore, gives blood “To experience it and help people in need. Blood is renewable. One pint of blood, whether rare or not, could help people.”

Some people might think their blood is rare, and it can be. Blood is important for sick people or some people who need surgery. Some people when they are sick or need surgery need all the blood they can get. Thanks to people who care about other’s and want them to get better, blood drive is available. There are lots of people in the world that do not mind giving blood and want to help people get better.
