Art Show for the Dimmick Memorial Library

This past Wednesday, on April 25th 2018, Daisy McCarty, Kira Green and Heather Locke, former art students here at Jim Thorpe Area High School, decided to run a local art show for their senior project. Their goal was to collect enough money to donate towards the Dimmick Memorial Library. They constructed their senior project in the commons area. The event lasted for two hours running from 6-8pm with an admission fee of five dollars per person at the door.

Daisy McCarty, one of the events leaders herself, explains why their group decided to charge guests five inside versus asking guest to pay with larger bills.

“I don’t believe people would want to come with any higher door price. While it is a fundraiser, it still needs to be an appealing event for students and their families to afford.”

While Daisy, Kira, and Heather were the main hosts for the event, they had a few people volunteer to help them. Danny Himes, another senior happened to be one of those few people. He helped the girls with setting up tables and displaying art.

Himes says, “It was our senior project and I wanted to help support my friends and the library in town.”

Throughout the event, there were a couple different stations for guests to enjoy themselves. There was food, drinks, and snacks. Art stations where art was displayed or could be brought were set up around the room. They even had live music to entertain their guests.

Alex Harris, a freshman and former art student states, “I definitely had so much fun. Everything from the food to the different pieces of art was so eye catching, plus the event was hosted well.”

The live music was really a hit and people definitely enjoyed the food. Thanks go to Kira Green’s mom who helped by preparing the delicious food.

Dominique Harris, a senior and former friend of the girls who attended the event said, “It was a night that really showed the talent that the people here possess. It was overall an experience that was really enjoyable, and everyone who showed off their art and entertained with music are extremely gifted.”
