Mrs. Butchko: teacher spotlight

Teacher Spot Light

Mrs. Butchko has been working at Jim Thorpe Area High School for seven years; however, she has been a teacher for nine years. Throughout the years, Mrs. Butchko has had many other jobs, but she has always wanted to be a special education teacher. Currently, Mrs. Butchko teaches special education and science at Jim Thorpe Area High School.

“When I was hired, this was the position that was open. I knew I wanted to a special education teacher, I was just provided with the opportunity to teach science,” Mrs. Butchko said.

Mrs. Butchko was born on May 14, 1979 in Suburban Philadelphia, where she went to Central Bucks High School West. She attended Lafayette College for her undergrad studies, and Marywood University  for graduate school. Mrs. Butchko has had a few careers, but being in the science department is awesome to her.

Being both a science teacher and a special education teacher could be challenging at times, but Mrs. Butchko would not trade her job for anything else. She enjoys teaching, because teaching is a brand new adventure everyday.

“I couldn’t imagine teaching anything else,” Mrs. Butchko said.

Mrs. Butchko enjoys reading, watching movies,working out, and walking her dog. Her favorite music is all types, but she loves live music the most. Mrs. Butchko really enjoys watching comedies and comic book type movies. As for books, she will read anything she finds. Mrs. Butchko does not get much free time these days, since she is in graduate school again. Overall, Mrs. Butchko enjoys her hobbies when she has the time to do so.
